Word Puzzle Builder
Pick a word, add a hint, share the link. They get six guesses. You get to know the answer the whole time. It is a good dynamic.
Make them work for it
The Word Puzzle Builder lets you create a Wordle-style guessing game with any word you choose. Pick something meaningful — or devious — type it in, add a theme hint if you want to be generous, and share the link. The other person gets six guesses and the full color-tile experience. You already know the answer. It is, objectively, a position of power. (I once gave a 7th grader the word TSETSE without a hint. The ocean teaches patience. I learned it there.)
Works for vocabulary challenges between friends, themed puzzles for team meetings, classroom word activities, or just sending your sibling a puzzle that will ruin their afternoon. No accounts. No downloads. They click the link, they play.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use any word?
Yes — any word between 4 and 8 letters. Real words, names, places, made-up words, acronyms. No dictionary check. If you want to stump someone with QUAFF or FJORD, that is entirely your right.
Can the player see the answer in the URL?
The word is encoded — it is not sitting there in plain text. Someone who knows base64 encoding could technically decode it, but most people are going to just play the puzzle instead of running a decoding operation in their browser console.
How many guesses does the player get?
Six. Same as the standard format. The hint you add shows at the top of the game to give them a fighting chance — or not, if you are feeling competitive.
Does the player need an account or app?
No. They click the link, the puzzle opens in their browser, they play. No sign-up, no download, no friction. Works on mobile too.
Can I make one for my class or team?
Exactly what this is built for. Create a vocabulary puzzle around a subject you are teaching, drop the link in a group chat or email, and everyone who clicks it plays the same puzzle with the same hint. Good for warm-ups, reviews, or low-stakes competition.
